‘Nothing But Deception!’ is a brand new offering for 2023. We have run a few deception camps and quickly realized how important these sessions are. Not only do these skates completely open up creativity in our players, but it also gives them the little tools that make the biggest differences.
So What is deception?
To us, deception contains tons of key components in hopes of out-smarting opponents or simply just tricking them making them think you’re doing one thing and then doing another – it’s all about reading your opponent and having several different options in your head of how you’re going to deceive them with the ability to use those options at any time.
Some key components of deception include;
- Head fakes
- Body weight shifts
- Looking opponents off (looking one way knowing you’re going or passing the other way)
- Stutter steps
- Quick hands into quickly moving the puck to the outside
- Hand/arm pump fakes
- Shoulder shimmy
- Rapid change of speed/pace to freeze defender
- Rapid, hidden change of direction
- Lots of different footwork techniques
