The modern game demands that every player on the ice, no matter their position, possesses a high level of skill—and it all starts with skating. For defensemen, the role has evolved far beyond simply blocking shots and clearing the zone. Today’s top defensemen, like Cale Makar, Adam Fox, and Quinn Hughes, are redefining the position by combining elite skating ability with puck control, vision, and creativity. They aren’t just defending—they’re driving offense, creating scoring opportunities, and dictating the pace of the game. This shift in the game highlights why it’s so important for developing players to build a strong skating foundation while also learning the advanced skills that will allow them to thrive in any situation on the ice.

Position-Specific Fun
This mini camp is all about defense-specific training that gives players the chance to sharpen the skills that are instantly transferable. From keeping pucks in at the blue line and walking the line with confidence to mastering puck retrievals with speed, awareness, and the right angles, every drill is designed to make players more effective on the ice. Skaters will also learn how to draw in forecheckers and escape pressure with deceptive moves, while reinforcing defensive essentials like body positioning, staying on the defensive side, and keeping sticks active. With nonstop energy, purposeful drills, and an environment built for growth, defensemen will leave this camp more confident, more skilled, and ready to make a real impact in games.
